About

Welcome and thank you for stopping by! My name is Nick and I am researcher with a chemistry degree earned from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. I currently work for my university as the Chemical Safety specialist. My interests are few and far between (I’ve found that it’s better to focus your interests on a few things, rather than just dabble in many things) but I’ve always had a passion for fitness and health. In fact, I nearly chose that as my educational path as an undergraduate and was 3 credits shy of a minor. Some days, I wonder if I made the right choice but that’s why I created this site.

Fitness has had such a profound effect in my life. It’s kept me healthy. It’s kept me sane. And it’s kept me going. It’s given me a respect for our amazingly created bodies. That same respect applies to the countless decades of research that has gone into understanding the human body. I say this because I’ve become increasingly alarmed by how much misinformation is available and actively spread these days to people who are trying to get fit. It’s nice that information is so readily available but how do you filter the right from the wrong? How do you choose information that helps rather than hurts?

In an effort to combat this trend, I have created this site as both a side-passion and a means to provide valuable, scientific and researched-back information. When I started working out, I had no idea how vital it was to have a fundamental infrastructure in fitness. Fitness is more than going into the gym and lifting some weights. It’s as much an art as it is a science. My mistakes (which has led me to injury, frustration or stagnation) have taught me how valuable it is to approach fitness with a fundamental understanding. As a scientist, this approach comes natural to me.

Oh and if you’re curious about my blog name, it serves a dual meaning:

  •  Mind-muscle connection is defined as “a clear and deliberate muscle contraction made to actively, rather than passively, move a weight.

But…

  •  it also means to apply both your mind and your muscle in pursuit of health. Engage your mind to understand the science behind fitness. And let your muscles do the work and reveal the results.
